While I did watch the game yesterday, where Lyon outplayed Liverpool (another overrated EPL team) and came away with a great victory, I missed today’s game, where I heard that Bordeaux had another great game after losing their last two Ligue 1 games.
Marseille also came away with three points against FC Zurich in a game which finished 1-0. L’OM again, from what I heard, looked less than impressive on the pitch and only came away with a one goal victory against a team they should have beaten by a larger margin.
Even with Marseille’s close game, the fact remains that the Ligue 1 was the only league to come away with maximum points. While most in the media put down Ligue 1, the fact remains that French teams played better than Spanish teams (with Real and Barca losses), English teams (Liverpool loss to Lyon and an Arsenal draw against one of the worse teams in CL play), and Italian teams (Inter drawing against Dynamo Kiev, a match they should have won).
As of now, it looks like two Ligue 1 teams could make the knock-out stage of the Champions League. Lyon are pretty much in with three wins in three matches. A win against Debrecen pretty much clinch it for Olympique Lyonnais.
Bordeaux still have some work to do, but seven points in three games is still a strong showing for Les Grondins.
While Marseille are doing poorly in both Ligue 1 and Champions League play, they will more than likely make it to the Europa League knock-out stage. This actually might be the better option for the struggling team.
Still, when all is said and done, Ligue 1 teams dominated this week’s CL play.

Even after their loss at Stade Gerland to Sochaux, how many clubs in UEFA are really better than Lyon right now?
Good stuff.
Right now, I would say nobody. I think Bordeaux will get out of the problems that they have, but Lyon is the best. I think Lyon’s experienced players are overshadowing Bordeaux youth and speed.
I would like to see Marseille pick it up. I mean, hell, they have the players! They just can’t get it together! I don’t know. More and more, I blame DD. I mean you have to, when you go this long with poor results, you have to blame the coach.
As far as teams playing as good as Lyon, well, lets see what Montpellier can do! Just joking, but if they beat Rennes away, who knows! I still don’t know much about the team, but they are the talk of Ligue 1! They just might be the real thing!
