FIFA has announced 29 players that are up for FIFA Player of the Year for 2009.
On the French mens side, Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery and Barcelona’s Theirry Henry have been nominated. For the women’s is Washington Freedom defender/midfielder Sonia Bompastor.
The player of the year award is determined by players and coaches of the national teams, and the top five vote-getters will be announced in early December. The announcement of the award will be held in Zurich on December 21st, 2009.
The most striking note is that not a single mens player on the list is from a non-UEFA team.
