A New Look at the Quality of Ligue 1

On Saturday in the world-famous Barclay’s Premier League, bottom feeders Portsmouth FC destroyed midtable side Wigan Athletic by a score of four to nil. This midtable Premiership defense was completely taken apart by none other than Aruna Dindane and Frederic Piquionne, loaned from Lens and Lyon respectively. These players were loaned out because, in Piquionne’s case, they simply couldn’t cut it, and in Dindane’s case because it wasn’t financially viable to keep him considering his output. Simply put, they were Ligue 1 bench warmers. Dindane had a hat-trick and set up Piquionne’s goal, and each of them could have had at least another, so thoroughly did they dismantle Wigan’s back line. What does this say about the respective quality of Ligue 1 and the EPL?
