Le Mans UC 72 to become Le Mans FC

New logo for LeMans FC

According to the club’s website, Le Mans UC 72 will be changing their name to Le Mans FC at the end of this season. In addition, Le Mans FC has also introduced their new logo.

The general shareholders agreed in a meeting on December 1st that the name chance would take place.

According to the club, research has shown that the UC72 doesn’t identify with the general public and that the name is ‘old’. Adding FC to the name gives it more of a modern feel. In addition, they feel that Le Mans FC will be more media friendly compared to the old name.

In addition to the name, the club released a new logo as well. They said that the logo was inspired by “passion” and the connection between the club and its supporters.

Here is the press release by the club about the new changes.

In addition to the name change, the team has also been granted co-ownership of total sales at the new MMArena, which is currently being built and will host the team in 2010. This, essentially, makes them 50% owners at the new arena. With the MMArena being a multi-purpose facility, Le Mans FC will also get 50% of concessions from other events as well, which will make their club more financially competitive.

Most of this has been worked out so both LeMans FC and the arena’s sponsor, French insurance company MMA, can pay off the debt faster. The club estimates the arena, which costs 102 million Euros and currently has a debt of 39 million Euros, will be paid off in five to six years. The City of Le Mans, who are the owners of the new arena, offered a 45 million Euro grant for the building of the facility.

The MMArena will offer over 5,000 more seats than the current LeMans stadium, Stade Leon-Bollee, and 250 luxury suites as well.

The only worry to fans and shareholders alike is how much will ticket and concession sales be reduced if the club is relegated to Ligue 2. This possibility has not been discussed by the club to the media. Still the question remains.

  1. That’s amazing. A change in crest especially has been in order for ages. The old one looks like a youth girls soccer team symbol.

  2. I think they are doing this really smart with research and everything. Too bad they will be relegated, and we won’t be able to tell how much the new changes work next year.
