Going into tonight’s game, Toulouse had faced a number of problems. And in our preview of the game, we stated that it might be hard for 17-year old goaltender Anthony Loustallot to keep his composure. Well, he was able to keep it, and the Toulouse youngster recorded a clean sheet in his first professional game as Toulouse goes on to defeat a struggling Sochaux 2-0.
“It was a dream for me tonight,” said Loustallot, who recorded his first Ligue 1 save in the 41st minute. He said that he was mostly worried about making his first save. But after that, he gained confidence, as did his teammates.
But even with a clean sheet and getting his first goal, Loustallot was rarely tested due to the great performance of the Toulouse back line.
Striker Andre-Pierre Gignac found his scoring touch yet again, and scored twice in two minutes, being the only goal scorer of the game. Both goals were produced by errors on the Sochaux back line. The first goal was cause by a lack of ball control by Jacques Faty. The ball deflected directly to Gignac where he had a direct shot at the goal. (first highlight below)
Gignac’s second goal was even worse for Sochaux, as defender Ivan Stevanovic passes the ball back to nobody, where, again, Gignac intercepted it and scored another easy goal (second highlight below).
The first half of the match was quite boring. Both teams played more defensively and controlled the ball in the middle third of the pitch. There were very few attempts on goal. It looked like the second half was going to be a continuation of the first, but the two quick Gignac goals turned the game around from that point.
Toulouse now find themselves in 9th place, only seven points behind league leader Bordeaux. Sochaux, on the other hand, continue to with their poor form and remain in 15th place. While they are still 10 points ahead of the relegation zone, they have only scored seven goals in their past eight matches, making them one of the worse offensive teams in Ligue 1 as of late.
Here are the video highlights of both of Gignac’s goals.
