Raymond Domenech has been invited to have a little dinner with a few members of the FFF tonight. According to L’Equipe, Domenech will be meeting, or eating I should say, with Jean-Pierre Escalettes, President of the FFF, Frederic Thiriez, President of the LFP, many of the staff within the French National Team, as well as club presidents, like Jacques Rousselot (Nancy), Bernard Caiazzo (Saint-Etienne) and Jean-Michel Aulas (Lyon).
One thing is for sure from the reporting of this meeting, and that is that Raymond Domenech will ‘not’ be the manager for the French National Team after the World Cup. This meeting is to discuss the installation of a new manager for the French team. But, according to those attending the dinner, nobody in the public should expect there to be any changes today.
“This is not a conspiracy or a secret meeting,” said Escalattes. He continued with saying that the people attending this meeting alone cannot make any changes to the management. Only the FFF council can vote on such a decision. And, as we saw a few months ago with the brave actions of Guy Chambily, the FFF isn’t read to change managers just yet.
Also, while Escalattes continues to fire his mouth off on possible successors to Raymond Domenech, he also denied that there was already a ‘secret’ agreement between the FFF and Bordeaux’s Laurent Blanc to take over the National Team after the World Cup. Bordeaux boss Jean-Louis Triaud also stated that this was a false story as well.
Blanc, who said earlier last month that he no longer wanted to talk about the French job talked about it yesterday. “What do you want me to say? I said that I wouldn’t speak more, but I’ll do it anyway. I will be very short and very polite because I must: I reject everything that was said. Period,” said Blanc. You have to give Blanc credit for 1. keeping his cards close to his chest and 2. concentration more on his club’s performance than any French National Team rumors.
Still, even though there has been nothing ’official’, it is clear that the two horses running up front for the French National Team job are Laurent Blanc and Marseille manager Didier Deschamps. According the L’Equipe, Blanc remains the favorite choice of Esclattes. Still, Blanc said that if he is offered the job, he could still refuse it because of the contractual agreement he has with Bordeaux, which lasts until 2011.
In additional French National Team news, the friendly that the team will play against Costa Rica in preperations for the World Cup has been moved back by one day. It will now be played on May 26 (21:00) at the Stade Felix Bollaert in Lens.
