Ligue 1 Fantasy Football Guide

I know there are many people out there who are English-speaking that try to play as many online fantasy football games as possible. Heck, I even play fantasy basketball from time to time, having no idea what I am doing. And with many websites, like Yahoo, offering French fantasy football, some fans need guidance on how the pick their starting line up for their team.

I have been involved with fantasy sports since 1988, when I played in a fantasy hockey league on an internet program called Q-Link, which was available for the Commodore 64. I have won my fair share of championships throughout the years. And, hopefully, this site can help you with your starting lineup if you are in a French football fantasy league, but have no idea who to start.

We will be doing this every week, and hopefully you will enjoy it!

And if you have a question about starting players, leave a comment and we can get back to you.

So, on to Matchday 15. Who to play and who not to play is the question. And to start off, I will give you my starters for the week.

But just a note before we start…make sure you do not start any Monaco or Montpellier players as that game has been postponed due to swine flu.

23-man squad for the upcoming WC qualifiers announced

fff_logoBefore we start the ‘bash Domenech’ ralies, which I am sure will happen (as is always the case) after a disappointing result, the French skipper announced the 23-man squad for the last two World Cup qualifying matches.

Most of the squad is filled with the usual players. Even so, there were a few call ups to the team. Sidney Govou is making a return to the team, after some time off with injury. Also Rennes goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez has been called up as well. Even with the call up, Domenech has made it clear that Douchez is 4th in the order, behind Lloris, Mandanda and Carrasso.

Another Rennes player, Rod Fanni, has also been called up to the squad.

The main question is, with the return of Sidney Govou, is who will team up front with Theirry Henry up front. Lately, Andre-Pierre Gignac has done a great job in that role. With Toulouse, he has not been able to find the goal as often as the Le Tef would like, but has still been a large presence on the pitch. Still, Govou has a great goals-per-game average for the national team. It will be interesting to see who the starters will be.

Here is the call up list provided by the FFF:

Keepers:Cédric Carrasso (Bordeaux), Nicolas Douchez (Rennes), Hugo Lloris (Lyon), Stève Mandanda (Marseille).

Defenders:Eric Abidal (Barcelona), Gaël Clichy (Arsenal), Nicolas Escudé (Sevilla), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Rod Fanni (Rennes), William Gallas (Arsenal), Bakary Sagna (Arsenal), Sébastien Squillaci (Sevilla).

Midfielders: Abou Diaby (Arsenal), Lassana Diarra (Real Madrid), Alou Diarra (Bordeaux), Florent Malouda (Chelsea), Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse), Jérémy Toulalan (Lyon), Franck Ribéry (Bayern Munich).

Attackers: Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), André-Pierre Gignac (Toulouse), Sidney Govou (Lyon), Thierry Henry (Barcelona)
